Words that lift people up
Every nominee at the Cardiff Excellence Awards has a page where friends, colleagues and clients can stand behind them. These guidelines keep those pages something every nominee can be proud to share.
Why it matters
A voting page is often the first thing a judge, an employer or a future client sees of a nominee. Your words become part of their story. A thoughtful message can be the one they screenshot, frame and remember long after the night itself. We want every page to feel like a standing ovation: warm, genuine and something they are proud to share.
What we love to see
- Speak from experienceTell people what it is like to work with them, learn from them or be helped by them. A single real moment says more than a list of adjectives.
- Celebrate the personTheir care, their courage, the difference they make. Recognition is the reason we are all here.
- Keep it kind and professionalWrite as you would in a card you would be happy for their colleagues, clients and family to read.
- Be specific and trueResults, milestones and the people they have helped, in your own words. Honest praise carries furthest.
- Sign it, if you likeA first name, or "a grateful client", lets them know who is behind them.
What does not belong here
- Swearing or crude languageEven in fun, and even between friends. These pages are read by judges, employers and families.
- Anything hurtful or hatefulNo insults, mockery, slurs or remarks about anyone’s background, beliefs, body or abilities.
- Claims about other people or businessesCelebrate this nominee without criticising competitors, former employers or anyone else.
- Private detailsNo addresses, phone numbers, or health and personal matters belonging to someone else.
- Promotion or linksMessages are for the nominee, not for advertising, offers or links.
How messages are checked
Every message is read before it appears. Our first check is automatic: anything that does not meet these guidelines is held back from the public page straight away. The awards team then reads every message, and only approved messages are shown to the public. The nominee can always see the messages left for them.
The same care applies to the stories nominees share on their own pages, which our team reviews too. If you ever see something that does not feel right, please let us know.
